Information

An immersive riot of theatre and roller derby. Heartfelt, fierce and funny as. Conceived and directed by Clare Watson and written by Virginia Gay, for ages 12+ and families, Mama Does Derby follows the story of a single mum and daughter who arrive in a regional town to ‘settle down’. Small-town life is smothering Mum. That is, until she discovers roller derby. Clare is joined by a powerhouse, all-Australian creative team, including award-winning set and costume designer Jonathon Oxlade (Designer), Larissa McGowan (Assistant Director & Choreographer) and Lucy Birkinshaw (Lighting Designer). Alongside our cast of seven actors is a chorus of 10 roller derby athletes and a live band. The staging includes a custom roller derby flat track, with the set entirely on wheels. Our audience sit in traverse in an exhilarating, immersive and unique sport-meets-art experience.
