As African oil and gas producers work to strengthen energy security while reducing operational emissions, the priority is increasingly shifting from ambition and guidance to practical implementation. Recent global flaring trends reinforce the need for proven tools, stronger operational discipline and greater collaboration between operators, governments and technical partners.
This masterclass led by the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP) will explore how industry-developed guidance can be translated into measurable operational outcomes, with a particular focus on methane management and flaring reduction. Drawing on the collective expertise of IOGP Members, partners and more than 2,500 industry specialists, the session will introduce practical frameworks, publications and technology-selection tools that can support operators in identifying, prioritising and implementing effective emissions-reduction measures.
The masterclass will also share lessons from recent methane capacity-building workshops in the region, which brought together government representatives, operators, international organisations and technical experts to strengthen capabilities in methane measurement, monitoring, reporting and verification, and abatement technologies.
Through facilitated discussion and Member case studies, participants will hear about implementation challenges directly relevant to industry players operating in Africa, successful approaches and lessons that can be applied across different operating environments. The session will examine how greater standardisation, shared learning and alignment between industry, stakeholders and policymakers can accelerate adoption, improve operating efficiency and support credible methane and flaring reduction strategies.
Designed as a practical and interactive forum, the masterclass will equip participants with relevant tools, implementation insights and industry connections to help turn established guidance into action where it matters most: at the operational level.
