Compatibilization of Amorphous PHA and PLA for Blown Film Applications

CJ Biomaterials launched a “new-to-the-world - PHA composition in 2022 - this PHA is unique due to its amorphous nature with a sub-ambient glass transition temperature (~ -20°C). We have discovered that this amorphous PHA (PHACT A1000P) enhances the mechanical performance and accelerates the biodegradation of other compostable polymers such as PLA. Based on this, we launched two products for flexible packaging applications. In this presentation, we will discuss the melt rheology, processing, morphology and properties of A1000P/PLA products where different reactive compatibilization techniques were applied to alter the multi-phase morphology of such blends.
