Project Pitch
AFRISEED is seeking EUR10 million to scale a climate-resilient seed systems expansion that will strengthen food security and smallholder incomes in Zambia and regional markets. The project will increase certified seed production, processing, storage and delivery for drought-tolerant maize and legume varieties by establishing six warehouses, upgrading seed processing equipment, installing irrigation for breeder and foundation seed production, and accelerating R&D, registration and export market development. Afriseed’s business model combines seed multiplication, processing and distribution through a network of Agro-dealers, government programmes and contracted growers, generating revenue from certified seed sales and related crop protection products. Operations are anchored by a central processing facility in Lusaka, a corporate farm, and an expanding base of growers, enabling traceability, quality control and last-mile delivery. By 2031, the project is expected to improve seed access for more than 300,000 smallholders, expand regional sales, and deliver both strong commercial returns and measurable climate-adaptation impact.
