NIC™: Mining Operations Management Platform
Funded by
Information
ArcelorMittal, one of the largest steel producers in the world, operates Canada’s largest open-pit iron mine on the Côte-Nord, in Quebec. Managing mining operations and coordinating 24/7 workflows presents challenges, particularly due to data being spread across multiple IT systems, which leads to inefficiencies such as equipment underutilization and unscheduled downtime. The NIC (Network Intelligence Community) project aims to develop a mining operations management platform for real-time access to decision-making information, targeting a 20% reduction in unplanned maintenance. Use cases include detecting material anomalies, training specialized language models for information access, allowing employees to ask natural-language questions and retrieve answers from complex internal systems—and predicting daily and weekly production targets through AI models that forecast output based on real-time operational data.
