Course Description: Advances in the Evaluation and Management of Urethral Stricture Disease
The evaluation and management of urethral stricture disease continues to evolve with advances in our understanding of stricture pathophysiology, innovations in surgical technique, and novel drug delivery strategies. In this course, members of the AUA Guideline Panel will present evidence-based updates on the diagnosis and treatment of urethral stricture, building on the 2017 AUA Guideline and the 2023 update.
This course will incorporate the most recent literature and broadened scope of the guidelines to include female urethral stricture disease. Through a case-based format, participants will explore clinical decision-making using imaging, surgical videos, and interactive audience response systems to facilitate active learning.
Expanded topics for in-depth discussion include:
- Diagnosis and treatment of female urethral stricture, including graft and flap-based reconstructive techniques
- Evidence supporting adjunctive intralesional drug delivery following endoscopic treatment
- Counseling patients on quality-of-life outcomes and expectations using shared decision-making frameworks
- Advances in bulbar urethroplasty, including non-transecting techniques
-Advanced reconstructive techniques for fossa navicularis and penile urethral strictures
- Management of bladder neck contractures, including endoscopic and robotic bladder neck reconstruction
By the end of this course, participants will have enhanced their knowledge of urethral stricture disease and be better equipped to lead comprehensive, patient-centered discussions regarding treatment options and expected outcomes.

Learning Objective 1: Describe the complete evaluation of a new stricture patient, male or female, interpret the relevant diagnostic tests

Learning Objective 2: Identify situations in which immediate dilation of a stricture or suprapubic cystotomy is indicated prior to initiation of a formal workup and treatment.

Learning Objective 3: Determine appropriateness of adjunctive local drug delivery technologies after endoscopic treatment of bulbar urethral stricture.

Learning Objective 4: Evaluate the relative risks and benefits of endoscopic versus robotic versus open reconstruction of vesicourethral anastomotic stricture after radical prostatectomy.

Learning Objective 5: Identify various reconstructive techniques for complex urethral stricture and bladder neck contracture.
