Project description
The medicinal hemp project aims to cultivate medicinal cannabis and produce a range of products from medicinal hemp. The project will be located on a 20-hectare site in Lilongwe District, Central Malawi. The project land has been identified and secured, and a comprehensive business plan has been completed, indicating high returns on investment. Furthermore, ready markets have been identified in Europe and Africa, ensuring a strong demand for the project's products.
The project is poised to benefit from a potential partnership with a licensed cannabis producer, providing a significant advantage in terms of expertise and regulatory compliance.
The project will be implemented on land owned by the Green Belt Authority, through a public-private partnership (PPP) structure. This partnership will enable the project to leverage the strengths of both the public and private sectors, ensuring a successful and sustainable outcome.
The Green Belt Authority, is a government of Malawi Corporation, which champions large-scale commercial irrigation through efficient use of land and water resources.
Financial requirements
Total project costs are estimated at EUR33.2 million (US$36 million)
Project feasibility
A comprehensive financial feasibility study will be conducted in partnership with the identified potential investor(s) to assess the project's economic viability.
Proposed investment model
The project will be implemented through public private partnership.
