Information

The talk brings up examples of multileg wells and the applicability of the multilateral approach in different formations, with an emphasis on Saskatchewan plays.

Starting with early examples from 20 years ago to an explosion of multilateral development over the past 3 years, this technology is re-shaping the Canadian Oil Patch.

While primarily focused on reservoirs like Bluesky, Clearwater and Mannville, multilateral development is also gaining traction in formations such as Bakken, McMurray, Belly River and a few other plays.

A combination of favorable royalty structure (in both Alberta and Saskatchewan), advancing drilling technology and geosteering workflows made multilateral well drilling a runaway success, unlocking new reserves and increasing recovery in existing plays, while generating a new value chain in the venerable Canadian oil patch.

We will present data demonstrating a significant increase in wells, legs, and meters drilled, highlighting the technology's impact on unlocking new reserves and boosting production.

By quantifying these gains and discussing technical advantages, we will illustrate how multilateral drilling is transforming the Canadian oil and gas landscape.
