K2 - The Evolution of Generative Change Theory: From Appreciative Inquiry to Dialogic Organization Development Gervase Bushe - Canada
This presentation will describe how 25 years of practice and research on appreciative inquiry has influenced the evolution of organization development and leadership practice, and in turn, how that can influence successful appreciative inquiry. How academics and large consulting organizations think about leading and changing organizations has changed quite a bit, and AI was a major, if not always acknowledged, catalyst. These include the shift from “planned change” to “generative change”, the integration of social construction with complexity science into managerial thinking and practice, the emergence of positive organizational studies, and the current enthusiasm for organizational “agility”. Using stories from his consulting practice, research, and recent book on Dialogic Organization Development, Gervase will focus mainly on how recent developments in change theory helps us go beyond the 4 Ds to understand what is required for appreciative inquiry to be used successfully for transformational change.
