Breakout Session B: Introduction to Alberta’s Energy Future: Strategic Opportunities for Nuclear Expansion
Information
Alberta is at a pivotal moment in its energy transition, needing to decarbonize while maintaining economic growth and energy reliability. Historically dependent on fossil fuels, Alberta must diversify its energy portfolio to meet Canada’s net-zero emissions goal by 2050. Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) offer a scalable, low-emission solution, providing reliable energy and supporting climate goals.
Economically, SMRs can create high-quality jobs and attract investments, fostering economic diversification. Environmentally, they offer a reliable alternative to intermittent renewables and are suitable for industrial and remote applications. SMRs’ advanced designs prioritize safety and waste minimization, addressing historical nuclear concerns.
“Introduction to Alberta’s Energy Future: Strategic Opportunities for Nuclear Expansion” is a strategic analysis presenting all the MacroEnvironment, Key stakeholders, Size of the market, 5 strength of Porter, financing Model and Supply Chain.
A risk assessment has been developed for each stakeholder, with a detailed impact analysis of each identified risk accompanied by specific recommendations.
The analysis methodically transitions from a comprehensive global overview to an in-depth examination of each key component. This project builds upon a case study from my Executive MBA thesis adapted to be presented and to create thinking, discussion and interactions.
