Ionic Technologies is a rapidly growing Belfast-based company, which has developed innovative technology to recycle permanent magnets, and produce 100% recycled, high-purity, separated rare earth oxides. Rare earths are essential for the manufacture of high specification permanent magnets, widely used in onshore and offshore wind turbines. The capability to selectively separate rare earths is a step change and enables a secondary market for these critical minerals.
Ionic Technologies has recently secured Innovate UK funding for two exciting projects which strengthen the UK’s critical materials’ supply chains, including a holistic circular supply chain for permanent magnets in partnership with Ford and Less Common Metals, and progression towards further commercialisation at Belfast Harbour, in partnership with British Geological Survey
