Body of Abstract:
We investigate how plants can protect key genome areas from mutations. In plants, DNA repair proteins are recruited, via their Tudor histone reader domains, to regions rich in the histone modification H3K4me1, with lower neutral mutation rates in critical genome areas, such as gene bodies. Comparing plants with other eukaryotes has revealed the evolutionary history of epigenome-recruited DNA repair, offering new insights into plant mutation biases, mechanistically and evolutionarily.
