Even under “normal” circumstances, optimizing operating room capacity is challenging.  Why do hospitals continue to struggle with OR optimization? The short answer is “it’s complicated.”  Operating room demand is unpredictable; access to reliable utilization data has been limited, and deep-rooted cultures compounded by market pressures undermine change. Add in an unprecedented pandemic that puts an even greater strain on hospital resources and causes significant uncertainties in both the present and future, and the difficult job of allocating and utilizing OR time becomes even more daunting.  So, how do you drive optimal perioperative performance, even under uncertain times? Optimal performance requires vigilant monitoring of actionable, timely, transparent, and accurate data.
