European Commission - eTranslation

Information

The EU is providing language tools and services to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and public administrations to reduce language barriers in Europe. The most prominent tool currently offered is eTranslation, the European Commission’s free of charge state-of-the-art machine translation service.

The Multilingualism Team in the Directorate General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CNECT) of the EC works on the research, innovation and deployment aspects of language technologies.

What we offer:

The most prominent tool we currently offer is eTranslation, the European Commission’s free of charge state-of-the-art machine translation service. You can use it to automatically translate text snippets and documents between all official EU languages and Icelandic, Norwegian, Russian, Turkish and Chinese. eTranslation preserves the format and formatting of your original files. Moreover, it provides quality machine translation in a secure system that protects privacy and passes on intellectual property rights to the requestor of the machine translation text.

eTranslation is accessible via a web interface to SMEs and public administrations. Public administrations can also integrate it into their digital services.

All you need to know about eTranslation is available here.

Coming soon: multilingual tweet and named-entity recognition will be available here.

What we are looking for:

  • Users interested to try-out eTranslation (public administrations and SMEs)
  • Language data to further improve the services
  • Examples and use-cases for language technologies’ implementation (chatbots, automatic summarization etc.)

If you have questions, want to try out the service or contribute data, contact us at CNECT-LANGTECH@ec.europa.eu or arrange a slot with us during the Luxembourg Internet Days event.
