The Four Factors You Don't Know About Your Salary

Please Note: Access to Workshops is an exclusive feature for Premium Ticket holders. Registration is done via the event app.   In this workshop, we will bust the myth that salaries in the tech industry depend mostly on the expertise and knowledge of the talent. Indeed, two candidates with identical profiles may earn very different values, depending on four different factors: Location, Industry, Company, and Project. Why is that? How can we take advantage of those? And what is a good salary today? Find out the answers to all these questions

How to Build a Successful AI Chatbot?

According to BI Intelligence, about 80% of businesses will use chatbots by 2020. The mission of these chatbots is to assist customers in their journey as quickly as possible, whether it is answering the questions, qualifying leads, or collecting contact details to make a sale. Although Chatbots are now widely used, their technologies and development approach are still in the early stage, and many Chatbots fail to meet Users’ and Business’ expectations. Your experience with designing websites or mobile apps may lead you down the wrong path. Conversational interfaces have their unique requirements. If we want to build great chatbots, we need to take a different development approach by focusing on data. In this talk, I will share the lessons my team, and I have learned when building 150+ AI chatbots for startups and Fortune 500 companies.

How to Create and Lead an Empowered Team

In this 1,5 hour workshop we focus on building and leading such a team. We touch on self governance, the role of the manager, decision making, and conflict- and crisis management in empowered teams. The workshop consists of a theoretical part, a business case and a group discussion. This workshop is for founders, managers and team leads for tech companies or teams, startups, or remote teams, who aim to further empower their teams in order to become more successful.

Product Development for and with Millennials: Using Cognitive Science to Close the Generation Gap

"Millennials are already the largest generation in the world's labor force. Like it or not, millennials already dictate how the future decades will look like. Even more so in the tech world. While there's not much more to say about millennials, the discussion is still out there. Generations always had a really hard time understanding each other's idiosyncrasies but, perhaps never before in the history of mankind, has a generation been so studied, compared and scrutinized, idolized and vilified. Why do generations think differently? We always tend to find the nurture route of explanation the easiest to understand and the most intuitive, finding contextual socio-economic and cultural explanatory dimensions to why a particular generation is the way it is. However, if you throw cognitive science into the mix, you'll soon understand how reductionist it is to think solely in terms of external cause and internal consequence. I'll argue that, once you do, new sets of tools arise to better deal with generation clashes, Millennials included."

EDP Data Innovation – Behind the Scenes

We will walk you through some of the most challenging data science projects we have been working on while revealing the technologies we love to use. How we forecast 100,000 energy points all over the Portuguese grid every day for the next couple of days? How we transform 6 million monthly energy readings to intra-day consumption curves in order to compute retailer portfolio load and energy settlement? How we monitor thousands of trees which grow nearby power lines? Behind the scenes – we will reveal just what our data science teams do at EDP.

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Meetings

WARNING: Making the transition from developer to lead is not without risks. Side effects include (but are not limited to): diminished sense of purpose, constant lingering doubt and feelings of inadequacy. These symptoms may disappear over time. If not, consult a professional or watch this talk. I was excited to become a lead developer when the chance presented itself but that excitement quickly faded when confronted with reality. Nobody told me what to do and as a result, I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing. I was unproductive as a developer, ineffective as a leader and considered giving up many times. In this talk, I will discuss how I overcame this situation and found what makes this job at least as rewarding as being a developer.

The Fake News Arms Race: How AI Can Create – and Detect – Fakes

Recent breakthroughs in Deep Learning, and especially Generative Adversarial Networks, have enabled great leaps forward in AI. At the same time, they have made powerful content-generating tools more and more accessible, increasing the danger of them falling into the wrong hands, as we have witnessed in the recent Deep Fakes epidemic and the Fake News Generator developed by OpenAI that was deemed too dangerous for public release. In this talk, Or Levi, founder of AI startup AdVerif.ai, will take us through the emerging Fake News arms race, between “Bad AI” for generating fakes and “Good AI” for detecting them. We will take a look at recent examples of AI-generated fakes and the underlying technology, from realistic face-swapping videos to AI that can mimic the voices of Trump and Obama. Or will cover the current state of AI for detecting fakes while discussing its potential and limitations. Learn how AI can help fight Fake News with a spectrum of tools, ranging from Machine Vision for detecting manipulated images to Natural Language Processing for identifying psycho-linguistic features, and data pipelines for Deep Learning at the scale of billions of items.

Help Pacman beat the ghosts with deep Q learning

Did you ever want to defeat a computer game by only watching the screen? You can using a software agent! However, the challenge is this: given only the image pixels of the computer screen, the agent needs to figure out how to optimally play the game. In this talk I will lead you in-depth and step by step through the deep Q learning algorithm which uses neural networks to learn a Q policy which represents the optimal action given the current situation. The talk will feature code samples in Python and put all the pieces together in a live demo showing an agent learning to master a game.
