The KISSKI project is dedicated to establishing a highly available AI service center for critical and sensitive infrastructures, with a primary focus on the medicine and energy sectors. Recognizing the societal significance of these sectors, the project aims to leverage AI methodologies to tackle challenges and foster innovation in Germany’s application-oriented AI research landscape, which is becoming increasingly complex due to the influx of distributed information from various sensors and actuators. The KISSKI Service and Competence Center, while initially targeting the medicine and energy sectors, is receptive to inquiries from compatible subject areas and disciplines. In the energy industry, AI applications play a pivotal role in managing renewable energy sources, sector coupling, controllable consumer management, and automated grid operations. The growing number of spatially distributed generators and consumers makes manual control and monitoring impractical, necessitating the use of intelligent data-driven methods facilitated by AI. The role of the involved organization, is crucial as a non-profit entity providing the necessary support and infrastructure for the successful implementation of AI methods in critical infrastructures. This organization offers a broad range of IT services, including collaborative tools, data storage, and scientific computing, aligning its services with the evolving needs of researchers and contributing to the overall success of the KISSKI project. The KISSKI project stands out for its innovative approach to harnessing AI for societal benefit, particularly in the critical sectors of medicine and energy.
