Information

Containers have been established over the years to encapsulate the execution environment from the actual user environment for years now. They are able to benefit legacy infrastructures by leveraging the lower overhead compared to traditional, hypervisor-based virtualisation. Their portability, reproducibility and distribution capabilities outclass all prior technologies and disrupt former monolithic architectures, due to sub-second life cycles and self-service provisioning. This workshop will be structured to outline the current state of Linux-Containers in HPC/AI, what challenges are hindering the adoption in HPC/BigData and how containers can foster improvements when applied to the field of HPC, BigData, Quantum computing, and AI in the mid and long-term. As a second thread throughout the workshop we will call for submissions to showcase innovative applications of containers in AI/ML, evolution of workflows, edge computing, and other innovative use cases of HPC application in containers to spark discussions amongst the audience. The HPCW workshop will call for submission broader community, reviewed by renowned container experts within HPC/Big-data, and will comprise of invited speakers and lightning talk slots, with the goal to compare different parts within the containerised ecosystem with regards to what the provide and spark panel discussions about highly debated topics.
