HPC and you the second - a Student BoF on Enjoying a Career and Community in HPC

Tuesday, May 31, 2022 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM · 1 hr. (Europe/Berlin)
Hall E - 2nd Floor

Information

Due to strong interest in 2021, we present our second truly interactive student-centric BoF for students and anyone engaging with students (e.g. mentors, industry). We will be presenting a roadmap on the different routes to becoming an HPC professional, highlighting the free resources and training possibilities to facilitate this career trajectory. All presenters are students, except for the moderators.

The BoF objectives are three-fold: Firstly, to showcase and motivate participants using a “speed dating” format followed by an interactive discussion session. Presenters include students from the biomedical, physical and computer sciences who come from several different communities including HPC application users, HPC application and hardware developers and support and training staff. Secondly, to facilitate participants in the creation and fostering of their own HPC community, providing support by offering relevant discussion topics on common themes and invitations to future HPC events with network-related social programmes. Thirdly, to provide a “one stop shop” for students to extend their HPC knowledge and find employment opportunities by introducing them to the main HPC training programs in Europe and the European HPC portal where these can be found.

The outcomes of the BoF include: greater engagement of students with Europe’s HPC training opportunities, the opportunity to feed back to the Digital Europe programme those issues impacting on student engagement with HPC, and the establishment of a focal point through which students can build and grow an HPC community.
