As the world's population continues to grow, and air travel becomes more accessible to a broader range of people, capacity constraints are becoming an increasingly pressing issue. With legacy infrastructure and some airports being located in a city with no room to grow outwards, it is becoming more difficult for airport operators to keep up with demand. This can lead to congestion, delays, and increased air travel costs, which can negatively impact the travel experience for passengers. In this session:
- Hear how airports are optimising efficiency and getting more out of their existing infrastructure by investing in new technology and exploring off-airport processes
- Learn how some airports are exploring alternative methods of transportation such as high-speed rail to reduce the number of flights and ease congestion
- Discuss airport planning for the future and what needs to be done to ensure airports can serve all passengers in their catchment areas.
