IBC Advanced Technologies, Inc. is a leader in advanced separations and green chemistry for critical minerals. Its Direct Lithium to Product® (DLP™) process represents a step change in lithium production by directly converting lithium resources into battery-grade lithium hydroxide monohydrate (LHM) at the resource site, eliminating midstream conversion and refining.
Demonstrated at a large-scale pilot facility at the Salar de Maricunga in Chile, DLP™ achieves 99 percent overall lithium recovery and produces 99.9+ percent pure LHM suitable for battery applications. The process is highly selective for lithium over competing ions such as magnesium, calcium, sodium, potassium, and boron, enabling efficient treatment of complex brines while minimizing water and energy consumption.
Third-party evaluation shows that the DLP™ process itself generates zero direct CO₂ emissions. With renewable electricity sourcing, total emissions can be reduced to approximately 1.35 kg CO₂e per kg of LHM, 44 to 73 percent lower than reported direct lithium extraction processes.
A planned commercial facility at Maricunga is designed to produce 21,886 tonnes of LHM annually with an estimated operating cost of about $4,000 per tonne and projected capital cost of approximately $550 million, positioning DLP™ among the lowest-cost and lowest-emission pathways for lithium supply.
