Information

Luke Jain, Tim Arnold, George Olson Olson, Cody Cavallin - Mechanical integrity (MI) is most typically associated with OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) as regulated under the Department of Labor. Facilities regulated under the Department of Transportation (DOT) including applicable natural gas, liquefied natural gas, and hazardous liquid facilities are not subject to PSM regulations including the implementation of mechanical integrity management programs. Nevertheless, MI methodologies such as those prescribed in API 510, 570, 635, 580, and 581 offer a suitable framework for integrity management of DOT-regulated pipeline facilities such as stations, LNG plants, gas plants, tanks farms, and other facilities. These MI methodologies can be implemented to satisfy current DOT integrity management regulation and provide appropriate engineering solutions considering typical facility characteristics including materials of construction, operating processes, and integrity threats.
