Music and Performance: A Seamless Fusion of Expression
Information
The presentation will focus on exploring the dynamic work of Vietnamese multimedia composer Tam Thi Pham. She's on a quest to fuse music and performance seamlessly, bridging technology, tradition, and movement. Central to her exploration is the Vietnamese traditional instrument, the dan bau. Tam Thi Pham not only seeks new sounds but redefines the dan bau's role, collaborating with dancers, performing solo experiments, and playing in the ensembles.
In the experimental theater piece "Tryptophylia" at YPAM, she goes beyond conventional usage. Here, the dan bau becomes an extension of her body, creating unique movements that elevate the performance. Tam Thi Pham's ingenuity blurs the lines between musician, composer, and performer, transforming the dan bau into both instrument and object.
Throughout this presentation, she will showcase works that navigate the delicate balance between performance art and music. Join us as we unravel the artistry emerging from this harmonious convergence.
