Description
Four companies highly representative of the new trends on the Italian scene have been selected in collaboration with MarcheTeatro – Crossing the sea . This special focus on Italian contemporary dance at YPAM is organized in co-operation with the Italian Cultural Institute of Tokyo and is supported by the Performing Arts Department of the Italian Ministry of Culture. Luna Cenere "KOKORO" “KOKORO” is Luna Cenere’s personal research triggered by the word “Kokoro” she encountered in the book “The Invisible Actor” by Yoshi Oida on “integration/identity of self/being.” Her internal reflection gets unfolded physically and the exposed naked body transforms into a poetic medium. She won the award for the Best Choreography of Solocoregrafico in 2017 and was selected as Aerowaves 20 Artists in 2018. *Please be advised this production contains nudity. Jacopo Jenna "SOME CHOREOGRAPHIES" "SOME CHOREOGRAPHIES" is a dialogue between the history of film, a massive collection of miscellaneous dance videos on the Internet, and the dancers on stage, set up by Jacopo Jenna, a choreographer, performer, and filmmaker who creates works of theatre, videography, and installation. In the latter half of the work, a video by Roberto Fassone extends the idea of “dance” beyond human, animal, or even movement. Dewey Dell "I’LL DO, I’LL DO, I’LL DO" Dewey Dell is a dance and performing arts group composed of Teodora Castellucci, Agata Castellucci, Vito Matera, and Demetrio Castellucci. They present experimental works that take inspiration from art history and animal behaviors and have collaborated with Kuro Tanino and Yuichi Yokoyama. What would we catch a glimpse of behind the satanic, cannibalistic, magical, and violent imagery of the Sabbath? Nicola Galli "IL MONDO ALTROVE" Nicola Galli was acknowledged by Fabio Acca as “the choreographer who represents the new wave of Italian contemporary dance.” Corresponding to the title of the work, he uses the image of “the other world” arbitrarily. The work is a modern ritual that unfolds from sundown towards the night for us to find ourselves as foreigners through decoding the hieroglyphic characters that signify the unknown with the music by the composer Giacinto Scelsi, who is a mythical presence in Italian modern music.
