Particulate monitoring and analysis

Particulate monitoring and analysis

Air Quality

Information

PM10 and PM2.5 Filter weighing under controlled temperature and humidity conditions. Data validation and QA/QC audit visits for Partisols, TEOMs, Particle counters/sizers and other automatic particulate measurements equipment. Occupational health particulate measurement. Airborne nanoparticles Techniques for particle counting and sizing, aimed primarily at smaller particles in the range 1 - 500 nm, typically known as 'ultrafine particles' or 'nanoparticles'. We currently maintain and calibrate the Defra Particle Size and number network, as well as carrying out laboratory research into the use of these instruments. Metals UKAS accredited service for particulate metals analysis by Inductively Coupled Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) as performed by NPL for the UK Metals Network. Sampling, data validation and QA/QC visits for metals sampling equipment. Additional capability for vapour phase mercury monitoring and analysis by Atomic Fluorescence Spectroscopy (AFS) (also UKAS accredited). Organic carbon / elemental carbon NPL's particle speciation facilities include a Sunset Laboratories Carbon Aerosol Analysis Instrument, which measures the organic and elemental carbon content of particulate matter that has been sampled onto quartz filters following recognised standard methods. Anions Sampling and analysis for sulphate, nitrate, chloride and other anions by Ion Chromatography. Data validation and QA/QC visits for automated speciation equipment as carried out for the Defra Particle Counting and Speciation Network.
National Physical LaboratoryNational Physical Laboratory - Virtual locationProviding confidence in every aspect of environmental monitoring NPL are the National Measurement Laboratory for the UK and have 800 scientists and 400 laboratories across all science disciplines. Environmental monitoring expertise has been developed by NPL over many years and is a critical aspect of the support we deliver nationally and internationally. We ensure our customers are able to monitor gas emissions reliably and comply with evolving environmental regulations. Our high quality, cost-effective pollution monitoring and analysis services are delivered using unique environmental test facilities. We help industry, research organisations, environmental regulators, government and other measurement providers to evaluate instrument performance, demonstrate conformance with industry-standard protocols and validate instruments in the lab and the field. Our emissions, ambient air sampling and analysis services are accredited to ISO 17025 and all our measurements are traceable to UK national standards, providing you with ultimate confidence in data and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Our expertise and innovation eliminates the need for specialist in-house resources and reduces our customers' technical risk. We deliver revenue, cost and time savings for complex technical challenges. Our unique combination of experts and equipment makes us one of the premier environmental measurement facilities in Europe.
