With biomethane routinely overlooked within policy circles as a solution for transport, this session explores that biomethane is the only ready to use solution to significantly cut emissions for HGVs today. It will look at the challenges to adoption, and how these can be overcome to deliver a low-carbon, circular transport system today. This will be explored within the context of the Transport Decarbonisation Plan in the UK, as well as looking at experiences from around the world.

The group ​has developed technologies and expertise that spans the entire biomethane value chain, including biogas upgrading, injection into the gas grid, distribution of bio-CNG or bio-LNG to the NGV users, and production of the decarbonized hydrogen from biomethane.  To date, Air Liquide has 19 biomethane production units and designed and installed around 100 biogas purification units worldwide and operates nearly 80 bio-NGV (Natural Gas for Vehicle) fueling stations in Europe, including​ 11 in​ the United Kingdom.
