The World Cement Association (WCA)

About us

Information

The World Cement Association, founded in 2016, is the largest independent organisation that works globally on behalf of the cement and clinker industry and its stakeholders, with offices in London and Beijing. We are a not-for-profit company incorporated under UK law, owned and controlled by our members.

The majority of our members are cement producers, ranging from the world’s largest companies, with capacities of 540mtpa, to some of the smallest, with capacities of 0.5mpta. We also represent companies across the wider value chain, including specialist engineering firms, equipment suppliers and technology providers, regional cement associations and industry consultants. All of our members have a voice, regardless of size, and any cement producer can become a Director of the Board.

WCA supports a sustainable cement industry, with one of our key organisational aims being to encourage technical development and innovation by our members to achieve full decarbonisation, through our climate policy, which is entitled “Net Zero, Zero Harm”. This policy, which is in line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and the 2015 Paris Agreement, recognises the different capacities, regional specificities, and stages of the road to net zero that our members across the world face, and is tailored accordingly.

In line with this, WCA provides practical help to our members through sharing of best practices in Member Forums, where cement industry leaders in areas as diverse as plant design, green quarries, machine learning AI, vertically integrated business models and low carbon footprints can disseminate their knowledge and experience. Our Decarbonisation Assistant Tool (DECASS) will give tailored advice to companies at a plant level, and our PEGASUS programme provides a benchmarking and audit service on a range of KPIs to help our members to prioritise key areas for improvement.

At COP26, we called on governments to creative incentives for industry to decarbonise, and now, in the lead-up to COP27 in Egypt and COP28 in the UAE, we are committed to supporting net-zero for the cement industry in the MENA region. This will be showcased at this year’s conference, “Reducing Carbon and Reducing Costs”, with a range of CEO roundtables, functional workshops to support C-suite planning, technical and operational presentations and a common net zero roadmap for the MENA region.

We look forward to meeting you at the conference.
