CASTELFEDER
Information
50 years of passion.
50 years of intense work.
50 years of wines with a special character.
It is well known that good viticulture takes time; 50 years of experience and discipline accompanied by the energy of the Giovanett family are the basis of this unique and successful story.
Since the foundation of the Castelfeder winery in 1969 by Alfons Giovanett, many things have changed. The assortment has been completed, production expanded, the processes in the cellar have been modernized and the market has become international.
The winery, which has been family-run for 3 generations, manifests its essence in a symbiosis of tradition and pioneering spirit. "We are at a very good point in the history of the South Tyrolean wine industry, now it is up to us to raise awareness of our company, to work constantly on the quality of the wines and not to lose sight of tradition", say Ines and Ivan Giovanett, representatives of the young generation of the family.
In total, today we process grapes from 65 hectares of vineyards, about 70% of which are white grapes with a focus on Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon. The remaining 30% are red grapes and here Pinot Noir is clearly in the foreground.
Despite the new challenges posed by constant climate change, changes in market taste and new trends in the wine sector, the Giovanett family has managed to maintain the balance between tradition and modernity with great sensitivity.
For generations, the focus has been on selecting the best locations for the most important grape varieties. As far as the next generations are concerned, it is worth mentioning the important investments made in the sustainability of the entire production chain.
From the constant commitment to continuous improvement and the desire to produce only high quality wines, with the 2018 harvest the Giovanett Family has launched a new project: the Pinot Nero project.
This particular project focuses on the vineyards of Buchholz, Glen and Mazon: what unites them, what distinguishes them and the way in which three authentic wines are developed from these three particular areas. This fascinating project will be presented in March 2020.
But anyone who knows the individual members of the Giovanett family knows that the success story is only just beginning.
Who knows what other surprises and achievements await us in the next 50 years.
