Ghana - Iron (Field exploration services and resource definition drilling)
Case Studies
Information
Vancouver-based Cardero Resources engaged Aurum to provide project management and oversight on their Late Proterozoic Shiene Hills iron ore project in eastern Ghana. This was a grass-roots exploration project in a poorly explored area of Ghana. A variety of activities were undertaken, which included:
• Interpretation and ground verification of remote sensing and airborne geophysics data
Archive search including historical Russian exploration data
Planning and setting up a remote work camp for 30 employees
Designing and implementing a resource definition programme
Managing multiple drilling rigs (3 diamond coring and one RC)
• Completion of 9,500 m of core and 2,000 m of RC drilling, QA/QC oversight, and logging of chip samples
Oriented core logging, core magnetic susceptibility and handheld XRF
• Geological mapping and trench sampling
• Construction of geological modelling based on cross-section interpretation
• Constructing a 3-D wireframe used in an NI 43-101 compliant resource estimate
• Training local staff in a variety of exploration techniques.
