Harriet Caslin Studio

Harriet Caslin designs and makes ceramic lighting and tableware predominantly from slip-cast porcelain. Drawing inspiration from midcentury design and op-art, her work explores the use and repetition of line to create fluid, immersive patterns which are translated to unique, functional, and tactile homewares, finished with super soft satin glazes for everyday use. Also inspired by the use of light in her practice, Harriet has explored and developed techniques to push porcelain and its natural translucent quality to its limits in the production of her lighting, to achieve a transformative result from day to night. Harriet says, “My collection focuses on tactility and creating objects you can’t resist to take a closer look to touch. I love the idea of someone using one of my mugs and noticing how comfortable it sits in their hands and how tactile the satin glaze feels with the unique ridged design or how the porcelain light vibrantly transforms when it’s switched on. To me, this is what creates an enjoyable and hopefully enduring relationship with the objects that are in our day-to-day lives.”
