Wallpaper by Artists. Bringing Art Home.
We want to make high quality art accessible to the many rather than the few. We commission original designs from contemporary artists, as well as producing an annual archival collection that commemorates the great history of artist wallpapers. Both our contemporary and archival ranges bridge the worlds of art and interiors. Wallpaper has generally been thought of as background rather than foreground – but not at CommonRoom. Our wallpapers are designed to challenge and excite. Just like every great artwork.
All our products are designed and made sustainably here in the UK. This supports British manufacturing and also helps minimise our carbon footprint. In purchasing a CommonRoom design you will be supporting British Industry while acquiring a contemporary artwork.
Launched in 2014 by London-based artist Kate Hawkins, CommonRoom began life with a modest offering of 4 designs. In 2015, Sarah McClean, with a background in marketing, then joined her after a chance meeting at an antenatal class.
Lately we have expanded our product range to include wallpaper, home furnishings, contemporary artworks and an archival print line. In 2016 we launched our inaugural design from the V&A archives – a print by C.F.A. Voysey from 1918. Going forward we aim to launch an archival design once a year.
