The Athens Suicide Prevention Coalition was formed in 2007. The aim of the coalition is to create greater awareness that suicide is preventable, that is it is often linked to depression, and that lives can be saved with effective prevention programming. We have offered a variety of training sessions to build suicide prevention capacity within Athens county. Our programs are grant-funded and typically target particular groups with a documented higher risk of suicide than the general population.

The Coalition's LOSS Team (Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors) responds following local suicides to provide support, resources, and education to survivors of the loss.
