Greenland Halibut
Halibut

Information
Greenland halibut (Reinhardtius hippoglossoides) is widely distributed in deep, cold waters along the coast of West Greenland and is caught by our longline and trawler fleet. Immediately after being caught, the fish is processed, frozen, and packed on board Polar Seafood’s trawlers or landed at our land-based factories for filleting and freezing. The short time between catching and processing ensures a consistently high-quality product.
Preserving resources for future generations
Halibut fishing is the second-largest contributor to Greenland’s economy, and Polar Seafood is a key supplier of this species. The fishery in West Greenland is MSC-certified, and efforts are being made to protect stocks in coastal areas. The Greenlandic fishing industry and government are actively working to preserve this resource for future generations of Greenlandic fishermen, as the fishery plays an important role in coastal communities and for the country as a whole.
Rich arctic fish
Greenland halibut has dense, white meat and a sweet, rich taste. Due to the low temperatures, its growth rate is slow, resulting in firm meat with a unique flavour. The fish has few bones and is well-suited for a wide variety of culinary preparations.
