Information

Most of our cold-water prawns (Pandalus borealis) are caught by Polar Seafood’s own modern trawlers. They are harvested in the icy waters of the Arctic Ocean at depths of 300 to 500 meters, where wild cold-water prawns live. Immediately after being caught, the prawns are graded by size, cooked or kept raw, and then frozen on board our modern trawlers. The short time between catching and processing ensures a consistently high-quality product. Ensuring the future The prawn fishery is the largest single contributor to Greenland’s economy, and significant efforts have been made to keep the fishery sustainable. Both the industry and governmental agencies are actively involved in these efforts. As one of the leading suppliers of cold-water prawns, we are deeply committed to maintaining sustainability. The West Greenland prawn fishery obtained MSC certification in February 2013 and is continuously updated. Delicate taste from the icy waters The prawns from Greenland are considered among the finest in the world. Growing slowly in the ice-cold waters gives them a delicate, fresh taste and a firm texture. The prawns are typically around 4–6 years old when caught.
