Unifying Clinical and Finance Data: Automating Cost Capture, Apportionment & Recovery in EDGE

This session will showcase a custom-built suite of FREE Excel VBA tools that integrate seamlessly with EDGE, a research management programme developed by the Clinical Informatics Research Unit, University of Southampton. The tools automate the full import of the Interactive Cost Template (ICT), including apportionment logic that applies organisational distribution policies, ensuring transparency on where funds should flow across departments. Delivery teams can use EDGE to record every scheduled, unscheduled, and setup activity in real time, while finance teams can generate accurate, aligned invoicing and reporting from EDGE for both commercial and non-commercial studies. With proven results of increased cost recovery across NHS sites, this solution is transforming financial oversight and improving resource management across the UK.
