EURODUAL is a Co'Co' dual-mode locomotive for passenger and freight transport. It is designed with both an electric and a diesel-electric drive, which means that it can be used on both electrified and non-electrified railway lines. On many EU freight corridors, a single Co’Co’-hybrid locomotive can replace two Bo’Bo’ locomotives with double-traction composition. The latest bogie technology results in lower wear and tear on the infrastructure and reduced track access costs. Versatile, economical and green, EURODUAL is Stadler’s technological response to the challenges posed by rail transport. More than just a «last mile» locomotive, it offers two solutions in one, combining the advantages of both types of traction modes: from diesel locomotives, the flexibility to optimise transport routes avoiding journey disruptions; from electric locomotives, the environmental benefits and the potential savings on energy consumption bills.
