With an estimated £100bn needed to fund the UK’s transition to net zero by 2030, how can the pensions industry play a part in supporting nuclear power, a key element in the UK’s energy security and sustainability goals? 

Sizewell CSizewell C, Britain's newest nuclear power station, is under construction on the Suffolk coast. The twin-reactor plant will power 6 million homes with low-carbon electricity for at least 60 years, helping Britain reach Net Zero. As a replica of Hinkley Point C's EPR design, it offers greater efficiency and cost certainty. The UK government, the majority owner, is strongly committed to nuclear energy. In September 2023, a capital raise was launched for equity and debt under a regulated asset base funding model, offering investors guaranteed inflation-linked returns for the asset's lifetime.
