Information
Ikuko Maeda: Shiraoi from the Perspective of Soil and Sea.
Ceramic workshop and table talk
We will be holding an event with Shiraoi-born ceramic artist Ikuko Maeda on 10th March, Sunday. She is well known for her beautiful cups and chopstick rests that are layered like strata. Ikuko-san also makes a range of works by remaking fishermen's flags. This project is called TAIRYO HUG, and it utilizes the flags are no longer used on fishing boats. They are transformed into pouches, bags, card cases and other small items ...the colourful designs are very eye-catching.
Ceramic art comes from the earth and fishing flags come from the sea. Ikuko-san makes her art works with these two great natural elements in our town. This event is an opportunity to delve deeper into the culture of Shiraoi through Ikuko-san's work.
