PFAS Replacements in Plastics: Medical Applications, Coatings, Textiles, and Lubrication

Information

Fluoropolymers have been used in medical catheters, introducer sheaths, and other minimally invasive delivery systems for decades due to the material's unique application performance properties. However, new PFAS reporting and record keeping requirements, which serve as a precursor to impending "forever chemical" regulation, are forcing the evaluation and eventual transition to alternative high-performance polymers and/or additive technologies. In this session we will briefly review the current regulatory environment, followed by a robust discussion of alternative polymers, additive technologies; and other innovations with special emphasis on replacement of FEP (Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene) and PTFE liner technologies. Comparative performance data on key metrics for processing; material chemistry, and in-application use will be shared. This session is brought to you by Compounding Solutions, a recognized industry leader in thermoplastic customization for medical compounds, concentrates, and additive masterbatches.
