DIGITAL TWINS FOR THE DUAL CHALLENGE 

The energy transition presents a dual challenge - how do we mitigate the impact of climate change while providing energy for a global population that will soon reach 10bn. The answer is in scaling up renewable energy generation to planetary scale and at a Moore’s Law pace. We’re working towards a tipping point that will see the cost of newbuild renewable energy to less than the marginal cost of existing fossil fuel power generation, like coal.

Akselos’ technology is a stepchange from the incremental pace of innovation that has been a barrier in the offshore wind industry in the past. We’re working with the offshore wind sector to lower the LCOE by:

  1. A reduction in CAPEX through our extreme engineering approach which results in optimised, intelligent design from the outset
  2. Shaving OPEX through holistic condition-based monitoring, predictive maintenance and the simulation of ‘what if’ scenarios for extreme weather events
  3. A reduction in the risk profile of assets operating in harsh environments
  4. Operational data gathered to inform more efficient future design

ABOUT AKSELOS

Awarded as Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum, Akselos  is an MIT spin-out that was born in response to  two societal challenges: the climate change driven transition to a low carbon economy, and the multi-trillion dollar infrastructure investment shortfall hampering economic growth and putting societies at extreme risk. We’re working towards speeding up the megascale deployment of offshore wind by lowering the cost of energy, and making infrastructure more resilient, with condition-based monitoring and predictive maintenance at the centre of our efforts.

We’ve taken the technology ubiquitously used in design, and applied breakthrough mathematics to make it powerful enough to also be used in operations.

The result is Physics-based Digital Twin software, which monitors the structural condition of critical infrastructure in real time, by combining next generation simulation software with sensors and data analytics. This offers asset owners/operators a window into the future, and the ability to have eyes on their assets 24/7.
