Information

After this session you’ll be able to:

  • Describe the evolution and role of the perioperative Nurse Practitioner (NP).
  • Describe the benefits of having constant provider presence from admission to discharge.
  • Identify common delays that are alleviated secondary to NP utilization.

Why this is important:

The mission of the perioperative services department of the Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York (CCMC) is to provide safe and family-centered care resulting in the high quality preparation for all pediatric surgical patients. The Pediatric Ambulatory Surgical Unit (PASU) in partnership with the Pre-Surgical Testing Department (PST) at CCMC recognized that the presence of a Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the perioperative setting would have significant impact on clinical safety, operational efficiency, and the patients/family’s overall experience.

Join leaders from CCMC as they share how NP’s were provided an opportunity to contribute their clinical expertise to promote an environment where there is continuity of care and a safer perioperative experience when caring for vulnerable pediatric patients. Learn how you can utilize NPs to improve throughput, efficiency, and create a safer environment for patients and families.
