Information

Our classic wooden thumb piano Kalimba is handmade by the Wagogo tribe of Tanzania. These fair trade Tanzanian Kalimbas produce their resonant sound through the use of hollowed wood. Recycled metal keys are hand forged and tempered for acoustic temperament. The box is decorated with wood burnings and is held with both hands when playing. In different parts of the world the Kalimba may be called mbira, karimba, thumb piano or finger piano. All these names are for the same African percussion instrument from the Lamellophone instrument family. Due to the handmade nature of this item, slight variation is expected.
