Pocket Sundials are also known as Diptych dials. Portable sundials were widely used between the 15th-17th Centuries. There were lots of models of these little boxes. They were made of different materials from basic wood to luxurious ivory, beautifully decorated or for everyday use. To use it: The gnomon or string will mark it with its shadow the local solar time (not always coincide with official time). For a correct measure, the compass inside must indicate the North (XII). They can be adapted to the latitude where the measure will be done and their decoration could also be customized.
