Femi Famakinwa is a unique jewellery brand handmade and designed in Lagos, Nigeria. Working exclusively with semi-precious stones, Femi takes her inspiration from the many patterns and organic forms found in nature, the colourful harmonies of the African culture, and the creative beauty of the luxury fashion world. Her aesthetic is bold and daring, mixing classic styles of 1980s glamour with modern shapes and trends, giving a new and stunning interpretation of timeless pieces.
Our metal of choice has always been 14kt gold-filled and 3 micron gold-plating, using only semi-precious stones. Our designer made this choice, because we wanted to offer our clients responsibly sourced affordable luxury, through circular fashion. As a brand, we encourage buyers to re-wear, repair and re-cycle every piece with our life-time repair service. This service allows them to maximise the life span of their jewellery should accidents happen, or if frequent wear takes its toll. We are proud to say this is what our brand is known for and we have built a successful following because of this.
Supporting artisans (mainly young West-African youths) with learning the art of jewellery making along with personal development and business skills training is at the heart of our brand. We run a structure that has the characteristics of a small traditional African workshop where all production steps, from design to assembling of the jewels are within the company and under supervision of the designer. We are also proud to have supported some of our local artisans with temporary housing and further education, two of which have graduated with a degree from University. The company also supports other charities such as the International Women’s Society and Cerebral Palsy Centre among others.
