Information

Band 6 Neonatal Nurse, As a Band 6 Junior Sister you should hold a neonatal qualification, we offer an excellent opportunity to consolidate your experience in our busy unit. As our goal is preparing leaders for the future you will have the opportunity to develop your skills in managing sick and vulnerable Neonates. We pride ourselves in developing leaders for the future and will enhance your leadership and management skills through shared coordination of our Special Care, High Dependency and Transitional Care nurseries within the unit. We serve a maternity department which caters for over 6,000 deliveries per annum and is well supported by the world renowned Harris Birthright Fetal Medicine led by professor Nickolaides. The challenges are stimulating because we have both medical and surgical babies on our unit. One shift, you could be caring for a baby with extreme prematurity on a ventilator. The next, attending a delivery and caring for a baby with neurological compromise or a diaphragmatic hernia or gastroschisis, then you could be preparing them for surgery, right here in the unit. After the operation, you could be working alongside our team of Neonatal Neonatologist and nurses ensuring that evidenced based care is delivered. We pride ourselves in having one of the lowest mortality rates in the country. With a team of Neonatal therapists who work closely with our patients, families and staff, we ensure that our Neurodevelopmental outcomes are optimal. Our nurses have the responsibility for planning, managing and coordinating clinical care for babies requiring high level of nursing care and supporting staff to develop these skills on the unit. We focus on developing nursing leaders for the future and therefore alongside a full team of Practice Development Nurses, provide individualised professional leadership and clinical development. Our nurses work with change and challenge to ensure improved lives and future for neonates and families.
