Information

The objective of this session is to help attendees understand the deep, complicated, and interconnected nature of all of our social issues. In 1989, law professor Kimberlee’ Crenshaw (Image)created the term to show how there is an interconnected nature of how issues can compound one another.

The Oxford Dictionary defines intersectionality as “the interconnected nature of social categorizations such as race, class, and gender, regarded as creating overlapping and interdependent systems of discrimination or disadvantage”.

She used the term to show how women’s issues were more challenging depending on how many non-dominant touchpoints you embody.

The concept can be applied, not just to social issues, but individuals. We are all overlapping points of culture. All full of blessing and challenge. This session will help you to see yourself and many of the social issues that we deal with in a more complex and nuanced way.

This approach is essential for developing strategies for making long-term and sustainable progress in dealing with our social issues.
