Putting Privacy into Practice

Protecting patron privacy and keeping data confidential are core values of the library profession, but is your library system doing everything it can to protect the data of users?. To adequately safeguard the privacy of our users, we sometimes need to take a step back to evaluate our data practices and ensure we are being as careful as possible with Personally Identifiable Information.The CW MARS and SAILS library networks in Massachusetts each separately conducted privacy audits over the past year to identify ways they could improve privacy practices. During this presentation, each consortium will provide an overview of the processes they followed to conduct their audits, highlight the major areas of concern, and discuss changes that were made or are in the works as a result of the audit.
