Mold Design for Product Miniaturization
Tooling
Information
As medical and drug delivery devices get smaller, the demand for micro components is increasing, forcing product developers and device maker to master the challenges of miniaturization. In micro molding, tooling is THE enabling factor for producing micro components and assemblies while still maintaining tight micron tolerances and complex geometries. This presentation will review some of variables that impact the science of designing and fabricating micro precision tooling including:
• What is micro?
• Why standard molds may not work in micro molding
• How part design and resin in combination with parting lines, cooling, gate locations, and venting affect tool design
• Equipment and staff needed to produce molds
