Project Pitch

CIVIDROS is developing Mozambique's first modern container-glass factory in Machava to substitute the country's 100% reliance on imported glass bottles. Project Pitch: Mozambique's beverage industry currently imports ~$49 million in glass bottles annually , facing high logistical costs and severe foreign exchange (FX) shortages. CIVIDROS will solve this by providing a reliable, sustainable local supply, alleviating FX pressures and significantly reducing the carbon footprint associated with long-haul international logistics. Business Model & Investment: We will operate a resilient B2B import-substitution model capturing demand from anchor clients like AB InBev and Heineken. The $28.4 million project , primarily investing in top-tier European equipment, yields highly attractive metrics: ~$19.8 million in average annual revenues and an ~$11.3 million EBITDA. Operations: The facility operates 24/7 , producing 21,000 tons (84 million bottles) annually. Driving circularity, it utilizes 100% domestic electricity and natural gas, local silica sand and limestone, and integrates recycled glass (cullet) to lower energy consumption.

Team

The CIVIDROS project is driven by a highly complementary team combining deep local business expertise with world-class technical knowledge in the glass industry.

  • Local Leadership: Led by Humberto Monteiro (President) and Javier Riera (Executive Partner), the core promoters bring extensive successful business development experience in Mozambique across renewable energies (Niassa Energia Solar), construction materials (Mozquarries), hospitality (Muzza Pizzarias), and others. Their strong institutional ties, including diplomatic representation, ensure robust local operational capability and strategic alignment.
  • Technical Mastery: Project execution is guaranteed by top-tier European industry veterans. Paulo Guerra (Chief Technical Consultant) provides 37 years of glass industry experience, including 11 years as COO of the Vidrala Group. António Ruivo (Project Manager) brings 23 years of operational expertise, notably having developed the Embalvidro plant in Luanda—currently the most modern glass factory on the continent.

This unique blend guarantees both precise technical execution and strategic market success
