yuri is a space biotech company that uses the microgravity environment of space to develop and manufacture superior biotech products. The team of 30+ space engineers and biologists has worked on 20+ payloads for the International Space Station in collaboration with organizations like NASA, ESA, GSK, Charité Berlin. yuri products and services yuri develops modular bioreactors and incubators for cell cultures, protein crystals or plants and launches them for scientists around the world to the ISS and other spacecraft. They also sell and rent devices to simulate microgravity on Earth. Since 2022 they develop their own pipeline of biotech products that are either triggered by or manufactured in microgravity. Team and history yuri was founded by the ex-Airbus engineers Maria Birlem and Christian Bruderrek together with serial entrepreneur Mark Kugel in 2019. Maria and Christian have worked on countless ISS payloads during their time at Airbus and saw the huge potential of microgravity for the life sciences beyond just government funded research. Since then the team has grown to 30+ team members in their headquarters in Southern Germany and their engineering hub in Luxembourg. They combine several decades of experience in human spaceflight engineering and space biology. In 2022, Daniela Bezdan joined as Chief Scientific Officer (CSO). She brings in experience from Weill-Cornell Medicine New York, CRG Barcelona, Max-Planck, NASA Genelabs and Poppy Health, where she until recently was co-founder and CSO. Daniela leads the development of yuri’s own biotech product pipeline.
