Day 2 | Rethinking local transport and enabling active travel

How do we motivate modal shift, away from the car and towards cycling, bus and train? This session will explore a range of measures to reduce emissions and tackle air pollution, such as Clean Air Zones, promoting cycling and active travel, developing safe cycle infrastructure, plus the investment in cleaner bus fleets.

How do new forms of transport (e.g. e-bikes, e-scooters and shared transport) fit into the picture and what are the equality and inclusion considerations? What additional support do councils need from central government, and how can private sector partners be leveraged? What does the National Bus Strategy say about rural services?
